Digg Finally Drops the DiggBar and Applies a 301 Redirect

Digg short URLs now do a 301 permanent redirect (instead of rel=canonical) thus passing on all the PageRank and search engine juice to the publisher's website.

diggbarAs expected, Digg has finally dropped the controversial Diggbar for all users who aren’t logged into their Digg accounts.

And all Digg short URLs (e.g. digg.com/d1mRDP) now do a 301 permanent redirect (instead of rel=canonical) thus passing on all the PageRank and search engine juice to the publisher’s website.

There’s however at least one instance where non Digg-users may still see the Digg toolbar - when you use Digg to shorten the address of any web page, that generated short URL would show the Digg frame even if you are not logged into Digg. This may be a bug as well.

Digg has also released a silent fix that prevents multiple Digg toolbars from displaying on the same page.
